Driving Fail

Let me preface this confession with the knowledge that I'm generally a very careful person.  I check and double check almost everything I do.  I blame this morning's mishap on the fact that for the last five months I have gotten no more than four hours of sleep per 24 hours, and my Mr. Right is currently in Haiti.

Let me set the scene.  It is morning drop-off at my son's school.  Sweetpea and Babycakes are strapped safely in their car seats.  I am just about to back out to head home, when I spot a mom that I wanted to chat with about an upcoming birthday party.  I tell Sweetpea I'm just going to be a quick minute and I'll be right back.  I then proceed to hop out of the car to jog over to the other mom.  Did I mention I left the car in reverse?  Immediately the car begins to drive away with my babies in it.  I am now sprinting to jump into the open door.  It is now gaining speed.  With a Bo Duke maneuver, I jump back into the car and slam on the brake.

Say whaaa????  No one was injured, and I didn't even hit anything even though the car traveled a good fifteen feet at least.  I was pretty mortified though, and amped up on adrenaline thinking of the possibilities of what could have happened.  So, I did not stick around to see if there were any witnesses (which quite frankly, how could there NOT have been witnesses??  It was a zoo).  I got the heck out of there as fast as I could, while driving super carefully as to not completely freak people out and solidify any future banning on chaperoning field trips.

Oh, and did I mention I was kind of still in my pajamas?

I once left my car in neutral in a parking lot and went to lunch. Upon exiting the restaurant I exclaimed to my friend "Who on earth would leave their car in the middle of the parking lot? Idiots!" then realized it was my own car.

We've all done it or something like it. Just glad everyone was a-ok. They were cute pj's right? I can't imagine you not having cute pj's :)

Oh my Lord... I would have been hyperventilating! I just can't imagine all those "what-ifs" that went through your mind!

But I have to admit that I totally didn't see the pajama part coming and it had me giggling out loud. Oopsie! So glad everyone was okay! Thanks for joining this week :)

I'm so glad that everyone is okay. When my husband and I were newly married, we were awakened by someone loudly knocking on our front door in the middle of the night. It was police officer letting us know that our truck had rolled down the driveway and into the road because my husband left it in neutral. You're not alone!

Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you're all okay. This totally sounds like something I would do too, by the way.

Thank goodness you got back to the car in time. I think I have nightmares about such things every once in a while! Glad all are ok!
